Everything else on this page is a preference. That column is a fact, and it is the one people get wrong: two of the highest-rated tours here never cross into Timanfaya National Park at all.
They are honest walks over the same 1730s lava, in the Los Volcanes Natural Park next door — but no hike includes the Ruta de los Volcanes or the geothermal demonstrations at the Islote de Hilario, because commercial walking tours are not permitted inside the national park. Decide that first, then pick on price and length.

Your one big day on the island — Timanfaya, Jameos & Cueva de los Verdes, from $103
The full-day combination, and the one most people should book if Lanzarote’s geology is getting a single day. You get the Volcano Route and the geothermal demonstrations in the morning, then the two great lava tubes of the north: Cueva de los Verdes, a 55-minute guided walk through chambers up to 40 metres high, and Jameos del Agua, where César Manrique turned a collapsed section of the same tube into a concert hall and lagoon. Nine hours door to door, pickup included, food is not.
The park and nothing else — Volcanic Craters coach tour, from $68
Half the time and two-thirds the price, covering the part everyone actually comes for: the crater route and the Islote de Hilario. Its 4.4 rating is the lowest of the coach tours, and the recurring theme is timing rather than content — door-to-door this runs 4 to 6 hours depending on your pickup point, which is a wide spread for something sold as five.
Cheapest way in, and built for a port call — from Arrecife, from $57
The lowest fare here and the only one that collects you at the cruise terminal, just past the police checkpoint. Read the option carefully before booking: the short version is Timanfaya alone, while the 5-hour version adds El Golfo’s Green Lagoon, the La Geria wine region and the optional camel ride. You do not need to be on a ship to book it.
If you have a hire car — Timanfaya Express from Yaiza, from $72
Two hours, of which eighty minutes are inside the park. You drive to Yaiza, park, and the coach handles the rest with your entry and route slot already reserved. The operator’s own summary says it plainly: enjoy this excursion if you have a car. There is no hotel pickup, so it is the wrong tour without one.
Volcano plus vineyards — Timanfaya & La Geria, from $73
The half-day that puts the eruption in context. About 75 minutes inside the park, then the Green Lagoon at El Golfo and the vine pits of La Geria, where each plant sits in a hollow dug through the ash behind its own stone windbreak. Note the La Geria stop is a visit, not a tasting — the tasting is excluded from the fare.
A one-off evening — volcano dinner, from $155
The park after the day visitors have gone: the crater route in low sun, then three courses grilled over the ground heat with live music, at shared tables of up to eight. The most expensive thing on this site and the least like anything else on it. Vegetarian and children’s menus need 48 hours’ notice.
If you would rather walk — the two guided hikes, from $51
Both are excellent and both are rated 4.8, the highest here. Both take about three hours over 8 to 9 kilometres of lava. Neither enters Timanfaya National Park — they work the Parque Natural de los Volcanes alongside it, on the same 1730s flows, which means no Volcano Route and no geothermal demonstrations. Know before you book
You cannot drive the Volcano Route, and you can no longer pay at the gate. Entry is an online, timed slot as of 2026, with no ticket desk for walk-ups. See can you visit Timanfaya by car.
“Timanfaya” in a hike’s title does not mean the national park. The two hikes above are honest about it in their own listings; not every operator is. Check for the words entrance to Timanfaya National Park in the inclusions.
Your pickup point can add two hours to a half-day tour. The published duration is an average across every stop on the route, not a promise for yours.
The camel ride is never included. It is at the Echadero de los Camellos outside the park, around €12, paid in cash on the spot.
There is a free way to walk inside the park. The rangers run guided walks — Termesana at roughly 3 km, a coastal route at around 9 — booked through the Mancha Blanca Visitor Centre on +34 928 84 98 39, at no charge, 16+, boots compulsory. Places go weeks ahead. See the best time to visit.
