Lanzarote: Timanfaya National Park & La Geria Tour

4.5 (712 verified reviews)

About This Experience

The south of Lanzarote in a single half day, with Timanfaya at the centre of it. Park entry and the coach slot are included and the route is run with an official guide, so you get the full 75 minutes inside the crater field rather than a look from the perimeter.

At the Islote de Hilario the guides run the geothermal demonstrations — the heat close under the surface is enough to set brush alight and to turn poured water into a steam column in seconds. The commentary through the route covers the eruption sequence that buried a dozen villages and left the colours you are driving through.

Two stops afterwards put the volcano in context. El Golfo's Green Lagoon is a crater breached by the Atlantic, its water coloured by algae against a black beach. La Geria is farmland made from the eruption: vines planted singly in hollows dug through the ash, each ringed by a low stone wall against the wind. Lunch and wine tasting are not in the price.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.5/5 by 712 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

Not much time when visiting the Charco Verde and when visiting the winery... we needed a few more minutes. When ordering two glasses of wine... almost 10 minutes in line... and then we had to drink them in a hurry; we were the last ones to get on the bus. At the souvenir shop... more of the same... a long line to pay. Otherwise, very good.

Everything was perfect, especially the very friendly live guide who speaks French very well and gave us a lot of information about Lanzarote. There were only French people on the bus. The tours are very well organized and very interesting. Very little waiting time at Timanfaya. I recommend it 100%.

The tour was very nice. Claudia, our multilingual guide, was excellent, and compliments to the driver, Ivan, who drove perfectly on very narrow roads and even gave us a few thrills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wine tasting at La Geria included?

No. The stop at La Geria is included but the tasting itself is excluded — pay at the bodega if you want it.

How much of the time is actually in Timanfaya?

About 75 minutes of guided time inside the park, on the Volcano Route and at the Islote de Hilario. Another 75 minutes or so is the coach transfer each way.

What is the Green Lagoon?

El Golfo's Charco de los Clicos — a volcanic crater on the Atlantic shore, half eroded by the sea, whose water reads intensely green against the black sand. The tour stops at the viewpoint above it.

Which languages are available?

Spanish, English, German and French.
