About This Experience

If you want Timanfaya itself and not a full island itinerary, this is the shorter way to do it. The coach runs the exclusive Volcano Route through the crater field — the road private cars cannot use — and the park entrance fee and the timed coach slot are inside the ticket price — and since the park stopped selling tickets at the gate, having that slot already reserved is the whole point.

The set piece is the Islote de Hilario, where the ground sits hot enough just below the surface to ignite dry brush on contact and to flash a bucket of water into a steam geyser within seconds. The route out from there crosses solidified lava in reds, blacks and ochres, with the guide covering how the 1730s eruptions reshaped a third of the island.

A camel ride at the Echadero de los Camellos is offered as an optional extra. It is not part of the fare — you pay for it in cash on the spot — and it is run by a separate concession, so cancellations or changes there are outside the tour operator's control.
